ITS EMILIO PUCCI!!!
Hard to believe right? The brand 'Emilio Pucci' takes us through the baroque swirls, quirky prints, lace and the sexy lady-like dressing. It came quite as a surprise when I went through the Emilio Pucci autumn/winter 2012 collection, to see fashion designer Peter Dundas exploring the sober slashes through masculine tailoring!
But why did he do that? We already have Stella McCartney doing this singe the crunch time in early 2009s when the world was just recovering from the 'economic recession'. When all the designers were playing safe, it was Stella McCartney used these iconic slashes in an elegant goth attire for her AW 09 collection. Prabal Gurung forayed into a similar style for his spring/summer 2012 collection and his garments carried uncanny resemblance to Stella McCartney's outfits (read the post here).
Here is a comparision of Stella McCartney, Prabal Gurung and Emilio Pucci.
As a fan and a loyal follower of Emilio Pucci, I hope the brand goes back to doing what it is known for, the intricate workmanship, delicious surfaces and the feminine dressing! I hope that is what even the buyers would want from the brand. Designers should never give up a brand's USP. It talks about the history, style and the characteristic of a brand! Imagine a Mary Katrantzou or Manish Arora giving up their loud and rioting prints/colours and settling for a calm mood. Doesn't sound good right??
